EIGHTH STATION - Jesus Speaks to the Women of Jerusalem

We adore You O Christ  and we Praise You
R : Because by Your Holy Cross You have redeemed the world

Jesus Speaks to the Women of Jerusalem

27 A large crowd of people followed him; among them were women beating their breast and wailing for him,
28 but Jesus turned to them and said, "Women of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, weep rather for yourselves and for your children.
[Luke 23:27-28]

As the women who followed Jesus were weeping out of compassion for him, seeing him suffer, innocent though he was, Jesus shook them by  telling them to weep for themselves and their children. What was in his mind?  In his suffering he maintained his dignity because he embraced the Cross willingly for our salvation.

Do we let suffering knock us down when we are treated unjustly? By nature women tend to weep easily.  Jesus  warns each and every consecrated virgin today, “ Weep for yourselves and the children of the Church !” shocking words ?  Do consecrated virgins ever weep seeing what is going on in the Church and world ? Does every CV  defend the Faith  by speaking up against the abuse of women and children? What about the abuse of CV themselves in some parts of the world? Weep for yourselves.

Weep if you try to live up to your consecration to a life of virginity but are  hated by people who destroy your reputation in revenge or to kill your vocation. Weep  if you are the only CV  in the diocese because there  will most probably be no one to defend you. Weep if you are several CV because  they may not support you.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we weep for our own sins and the sins of people against women and children.  Jesus, you love your Church, send your grace for the purification and renewal of the Church and restore  its dignity. Protect every CV who suffers for being faithful to you in body, mind, heart and spirit.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be…………
